A tasty little treat ...

Sweet, chocolaty and rich, these bars are fast and easy to make ... and you don't need the oven. The recipe uses Nabisco's Lorna Doone shortbread cookies for the crust. No one seems to know how the name Lorna Doone was originally chosen when the cookie made it's debut back in 1912. All that can be said is that R.D. Blackmore, a British novelist, was the author of a popular book titled Lorna Doone, and the lead character, Lorna Doone of course, was of Scottish heritage. Since shortbread was considered Scottish, the shortbread cookie was named Lorna Doone!

LORNA DOONE BARS

1 pkg. Lorna Doone cookies
Lay cookies flat in 9x13 pan
Combine:
12-oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp. Karo syrup
Boil 2 minutes. Pour mixture over the cookies and spread evenly.

Cool. Cut into bars and serve.

  1. I never knew that about Lorna Doone! I have some girl scout shortbread cookies that will be perfect for this, I think. And "only" two sticks of butter! ;-)
