Thanksgiving and Black Friday have come and gone which means Christmas is almost here! Merry Christmas from my kitchen to yours!
I especially want to send holiday greetings to Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial, for making the In My Kitchen posts possible. What a wonderful lady, so talented and kind. Be sure to stop by and check out her posts, and the posts of all the other bloggers who participate.
In my kitchen …
Years ago, when my daughter was a little girl, we'd make Christmas ornaments together to give as gifts. This is one of my favorites. To make it, you'll need nuts (almonds and filberts in the shell), a hot glue gun, and holiday ribbon. If you want to add a bit of glamour, you can paint the nuts gold. I prefer them natural.

Caprese Skewers, a red and green themed holiday appetizer. You can find the recipe here.
In my kitchen …
Way back in the 1950's, when I was growing up, my mom always made an Ice Cream Cake for dessert on Christmas. Ice cream cake in December, in snowy cold Minnesota, is a bit of an oxymoron, but my three brothers and five cousins loved it and looked forward to it every year!
Pretzel buttons: Pretzels, Hershey's kisses and Christmas M&M's. Easy and yummy! Fun to make with kids, too!
Finally, here's a song that makes me smile. Sorry about the commercial. Listen here.
Good ideas, and you are way ahead of me in getting into the holiday doings. Although I did make fruit cakes- a little late- but I don't mind if they aren't too boozy anyway~
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Never made fruitcake. I'm sure yours will be delicious!
DeleteHi Marianne, My mum always made icecream cake at Christmas too though it is a little more appropriate on a hot Australian summer's day than were you are.
ReplyDeleteIce cream cake on a hot Christmas day would be grand! But kids being kids, they'll love it anytime of year! :)
DeleteThat's a clever idea about the Pretzel Buttons - thanks. Looking at the Christmas decoration you made with your daughter reminds me of some I made with the kids though in typical Aussie Summer Christmas fashion they were shells that they painted with nail polish. We still have them too. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of shells and use them to decorate my porch in summer, although I'm MANY miles from their habitat. I love that you still have them … a true treasure!
DeleteMarianne, your ornaments made with almonds in the shell are so beautiful! I do love them! I must ask you, where is 'home' for you? xo
ReplyDeleteHi Bizzy Lizzy ! Home for me is Minnesota, in the midwestern US. We're about 350+ miles from the Canadian border. It's a frigid -7 degrees F (below zero!) here this morning. Winter has settled in with a vengeance! Thanks for asking! xox
ReplyDeleteI love your homemade Christmas ornament! And Caprese salad is one of our favourites - never thought to make it as skewers. Thanks for you wonderful ideas and very kind words, Marianne! All the very best to you and your family for a wonderful festive season! x
ReplyDeleteAnd my thanks to you, dear Celia, for all you do to make In My Kitchen work so smoothly! xox
Deleteoohhh....yummy! I can't eat gluten but would be completely happy with the caprese skewers and the ice cream cake...if all those kids left any for me.
ReplyDeleteThe caprese skewers are delicious! :)
DeleteMarianne, your kitchen is filled with festive treats and memories... the makings of a wonderful holiday. Thanks for sharing that version of White Christmas, too -- I grinned the whole way through! Merry Christmas to you & your family.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to YOU!

ReplyDeleteWhat lovely things in your kitchen, despite the blistering cold! Merry Christmas :D
ReplyDeleteTh cold and snow are getting me down. This is not typical December weather, more like mid January. But it's warm & cozy in my kitchen. :) Merry Christmas!

Cheers, Joanne, and thanks for stopping!
DeleteWe always have frozen icecream style dessert cake for Christmas- but as it's mid summer it makes more sense than hot pudding :)
ReplyDeleteSummer is just a memory here now. Have a lovely Christmas.
