It's May ... tra la!

The Lusty Month of May!
For my first May post, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that MAYBE spring will still come this year. For a while, I've been thinking it had completely missed Minnesota and we wouldn't see it until 2012.

From Lerner and Loewe's Camelot comes The Lusty Month of May, performed by the divine Vanessa Redgrave:

GUENEVERE:
Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.
Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear!
It's May! It's May!
That gorgeous holiday
When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad
Will be a cad!
It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!

It is certainly no accident that Queen Guinevere's 'abduction' by
Meliagrance occurs on May first when she and the court have gone
a-Maying, or that the usually efficient Queen's Guard, on this
occasion, rode unarmed.

Camelot, Lerner & Loewe's last Broadway hit, opened at the Majestic Theatre on December 3, 1960 and ran for 873 performances.
