There's something so elegant about a demitasse cup; its continental style, its chic (chick) design . . .
In case you are wondering, a demitasse is a small cup (the name is from the French for "half cup"), used to serve espresso or Arabic coffee, usually after a meal and typically about half the size of a full coffee cup. My mother has been collecting demitasse cups for over 70 years and has a spectacular collection. Each of her cups has a special story.
Today seems like a good time to share this sweet vintage cup and saucer, a gift from my friend Cathy. The little chicks look like they're ready to begin peeping any second. And I think the detail of the chick breaking out of his shell is charming!
