Spiced Pecans ~ A Southern Favorite!
We received a lovely holiday gift of pecans last week from a new friend in Florida. Oven-toasted pecans made Southern-style with a light coating of sugar, cinnamon and a bit of salt, are a treat at Christmas or any time. I've been making this simple recipe for years. The pecans are coated with egg white, then dusted with sugar, salt and cinnamon. And by the way, spiced pecans, with goat cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing, make a nice addition to a salad.
SPICED PECANS
1# pecans
1 Tbsp. egg white
1/2 cup sugar
Pinch salt
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
Pour egg whites over nuts; mix with hands. Combine sugar, salt and cinnamon and pour over nuts. Stir with fork until pecans are well coated with this mixture. Place nuts on a cookie sheet and bake 30 minutes at 300 degrees. Stir with spatula every 10 minutes while baking. Allow to cool completely and store in an air tight container.

Mmmm. Sounds crazy I know, but I never learned how to make spiced nuts. These sound delicious.
ReplyDeleteA friend gave me a bag of pecans a few years back that looked like tehey were dusted with gold. I need to bring a small appetizer to a Holiday open house and thought of these. When I asked my friend to share her recipe she said she had been sworn to secrecy by her sister who had given her the reciet. I'm hoping this recipe comes close.
